Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
